Culture stone — also called cultured stone or manufactured stone veneer — transforms a tired brick chimney or a plain foundation wall into something striking. It's lighter, more consistent, and more affordable than natural stone while giving a convincing hand-built look. The difference between a veneer that lasts 30 years and one that fails in three is entirely in the install: moisture barrier, lath, mortar, and sealant.
We install both culture stone and natural fieldstone or river stone, dry-laid for natural color flow and joint pattern before any mortar sets. The result looks hand-built, not glued on — and it's installed to shed Michigan weather, not trap it.

OUR PROCESS
Step 1
Surface Prep
The substrate is cleaned and prepared — sound brick, block, or framed wall — for a permanent bond. We fix any water or structural issues first.
Step 2
Weather Barrier & Lath
A moisture barrier and metal lath are installed, then a scratch coat of mortar gives the stone a secure mechanical bond to the wall.
Step 3
Layout & Dry-Fit
Stones are dry-laid and arranged for natural color variation, joint size, and corner placement before any mortar sets — so it looks hand-built, not glued on.
Step 4
Stone Installation
Each piece is set with proper mortar coverage and joint control, working corners and flats for a continuous, natural look.
Step 5
Grout, Tool & Seal
Joints are packed and tooled, then a sealer protects the finish and deepens the natural color for decades of Michigan weather.
